Last week, the Parliament of the Portuguese Republic adopted a decision to extend temporary protection for Ukrainians. Comment of the managing partner of TEFFI law firm, attorney Igor Kryzhanovskyi, on this matter:
“This is a very important decision for Ukrainians in Portugal, who were forced to leave their homeland last year after a large-scale invasion.
The currently known information about the extension of temporary protection is only a resolution. That is, there is no resolution itself yet, only the declarative part.
The resolution states that temporary protection has been extended for 6 months. This is in accordance with the law, because according to it, temporary protection can be extended twice for 6 months.
Currently, there is no procedure on how to do this, although the temporary protection granted last year to some Ukrainians has already expired.
We are very grateful to the Portuguese Republic for accepting Ukrainians and expect a positive decision on the renewal procedure soon.”
